Mayor R Sharadamma has directed the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) chief engineer to blacklist the contractor who is responsible for the delay in the construction of the stormwater drain on Armstrong Road in Shivajinagar.

Mayor, with deputy mayor S Harish, Shivajinagar MLA R Roshan Baig, ruling party leader BR Nanjundappa and others inspected the Halsuru, Shivajinagar and Vasantnagar wards on Tuesday.

Irked by the delay, the mayor said that the contract should be awarded to some other contractor by calling for tenders immediately. Sharadamma also took BWSSB engineers to task for the water leakage damaging the roads. The pipes, which had been laid at the junction which connects the Kamaraj Road and Dikenson Road, were damaged for the past several months resulting in traffic problems.

“Due to BWSSB’s negligence, the city roads are being damaged. The officers are escaping their responsibility and making excuses. I have directed them to rectify the pipes within a week. The BBMP will take up the road-asphalting work. I will inspect the place after a week,” the mayor warned.

Shivajinagar MLA Roshan Baig said that several shop-owners have erected illegal hoardings and have violated the law. They are not even paying the rent to the BBMP.

Mayor also found that Shubanjanli Garments showroom has converted the ground floor, meant for parking, into shops and directed the officials to issue notice to the building owner. After inspecting the Veerapillai Street, Armstrong Road and Nala Road, the mayor said that the illegal encroachment of the drains should be immediately removed.

The mayor also visited Russel Market and directed the officials to give importance to the maintenance. She warned the officials of stringent action against them if the market is not kept clean.
