Bangalore: The High Court has summoned the director of mass education to appear in court on December 4, 2009, with all the relevant records pertaining to officers involved in doing away with immovable assets of the Mahila Vidya Peetha in Kengeri.
MK Mallaih, principal of the peetha, had challenged his suspension by the assistant
commissioner after he reportedly tried to report some discrepancies involving immovable assets in the institution. Though the director was issued a notice on October 26, he absented himself - a move that bordered on contempt of court. Following this, Justice Ram Mohan Reddy directed the registry to send a letter to the second respondent, asking him to appear in court on December 4, 2009.
"In my experience, it is not strange for the state government to take such recourse. It is always such that if an officer was to point out to a mistake, he would be transferred or suspended. In this case also, the state transferred the whistle-blower instead of taking action against the officers who did away with the immovable assets of the peetha," the court observed.
In 2001, adult education as well as the immovable and movable properties of the Karnataka Education Council were dissolved. The Karnataka Education Council then moved all immovable and movable properties to the State Mass Education Department.
