This Western Ghat town has now assumed a multi-state importance with police teams from Tamil Nadu and Kerala joining the Anti-Naxal Force (ANF) here in their pursuit of Naxals in the area. It may be recalled that ANF during its raid on a Naxal camp in Urdyaru falls in Malavanthige last Friday came across Maoist literature in Malayalam and some literature in Tamil, where Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) was mentioned.

ANF sources said that six policemen each from Tamil Nadu and Kerala have started investigation on Tuesday into the possible links between the Naxal group in Belthangady and Kerala, and LTTE. Sources confirmed that the Naxal group that escaped from the ANF ambush belonged to the south western region group of Maoist-Naxals and they were having their regional conference in the middle of the forest in Malavanthige village.
