After the successful implementation of the “zero garbage zone” pilot project in Gandhinagar, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has now decided to extend the initiative to Malleswaram.
As part of the initiative, a drive will soon be launched to spread awareness among Malleswaram residents on segregating wet and dry waste at the source-level, the kitchen, itself. During an interaction with the Malleswaram residents, BBMP commissioner Bharat Lal Meena on Saturday said the project had achieved 80% success in Gandhinagar and it would be further extended to other constituencies.
“However, it will be officially inaugurated in Malleswaram only after chief minister BS Yeddyurappa finds time in his busy schedule,” he said. “If the Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) come forward to extend the initiative in their areas, they would be provided buckets for segregating the waste,” Meena said.
“After zero garbage zones, the next target is to make certain localities plastic free zones. Even the Hasiru Santhe, which was recently organised in the Sankey Tank park, will be extended to other wards,” he said.
