In the case of the teenage girl who had set herself ablaze on Wednesday when a customer of her mother, who is a sex worker, forced her for sex, the police have arrested the ‘madam’ who had brought the customer to her house.

Tavarekere police arrested Jayamma on Friday. She confessed to luring the girl Anitha’s mother Vani to flesh trade. Vani’s 18-year-old daughter had died after setting herself ablaze on Wednesday when the customer turned to her for sex.

On Wednesday, Vani allegedly had some disagreement with Jayamma. That was when Anitha showed up. Jayamma had then allegedly asked Vani to send the girl with the customer. The man tried to grab the 18-year-old girl, who ran to the kitchen and set herself ablaze.

The police told DNA that Jayamma has admitted to luring Vani into the flesh trade but refused to divulge the identity of the client who had attacked the teenage girl. The police said they were questioning her but she remained tight-lipped. Further, the police said Jayamma has alleged that Vani, too, not innocent.

The police are suspecting that Vani may have forced her daughter to sleep with the client. Police said Vani used to come home heavily drunk. They said they were investigating the case and would soon discover Vani’s role, if any, in the incident.

Further, the police said the case would be solved once they identify and nab the man who had pounced on the girl. “We will come to know what exactly happened in Vani’s house and why the girl committed suicide after Jayamma tells about the absconding customer,” the investigating officer said.
