The Karnataka high court on Thursday observed that the process of land acquisitions by the state government for multinational projects is something which even Nazi leader Adolf Hitler would not have adopted.

The court made this observation in a case related to the acquisition of lands at Devanahalli for the aerospace project.

Giving two weeks’ time to the government, justice DV Shylendra Kumar ordered it to provide details on the land acquired for industrial purposes, ongoing land acquisition projects and facts and figures that give a clear picture on the government utilising its power for acquiring the lands.

The judge was hearing a case filed by Mattikar Taherunniza, who had contended that in the preliminary notification dated August 7, 2006, one acre was acquired in Devanahalli taluk for a tech park, which was part of the aerospace project.

However, in the final notification on the May 15, 2007, 12 acres 29 guntas were shown. The notice for the possession of land was issued to the petitioner for12 acres 29 guntas land, and hence he had challenged it before the court.

Justice Kumar told the government that it was not following the process methodologically, while acquiring lands. “They do not issue notices to the land owners at the right time. Even Adolf Hitler would not have done what you all are doing. You’ll give away the lands easily to the foreigners,” the judge observed.

Justice Kumar also observed that the government undertakes developmental works in a jiffy. “Your process of acquisition happens urgently, ultimately leading to a crash-land. On the pretext of providing employment, you acquire the lands first and then close the projects, similar to the way the NGF Company was shut down,” justice Kumar observed.

Justice Kumar pulled up the government for filing an affidavit, where details regarding the notification of the land were not very forthcoming, and said that it must have prepared the statement in a state of confusion.

Further, he observed that before filing the affidavit, the matter should be well studied. “You all are incorrigible,” observed the judge.
