The Lok Ayukta special court has directed Victoria Hospital to provide medical reports of former minister Katta Subramanya Naidu to decide on his bail plea for operation.

The court, on September 19, extended judicial custody of Naidu and his son Katta Jagadish until October 26. Naidu’s bail plea on medical grounds came up for hearing on Saturday. Naidu’s lawyer Ravi B Naik said Naidu’s stem cells are stored in a London hospital and he needed to undergo surgery for cancer there.

Lok Ayukta special public prosecutor Pramod Chandra said Naidu’s counsel had not produced documents so far and this suggested surgery was necessary.

Judge NK Sudhinra Rao directed Victoria Hospital’s authorities to provide his medical reports on September 26 and adjourned the hearing to September 28. The judge directed hospital authorities to attend the next hearing on September 28.

Meanwhile, the Lok Ayukta police filed objections to Naidu’s bail plea. They said certain observations were forthcoming.

The objection said that although the former minister claimed to be suffering from a host of diseases (diabetes, hypertension, cervical spondylitis and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma), no documents were placed to establish that he indeed was suffering from the cancer that needed surgery.

Further, the Lokayukta police’s objection pointed out that Katta had been diagnosed with cancer in 2004, but he was hale and hearty and active in politics, even serving as minister. The objection stated he had been active until he was remanded to judicial custody; there were no reports of any complication relating to the cancer until his remand.

The objection states that even in Victoria Hospital, the best available facilities are being doled out to him and he is being treated as an in-patient. The facilities and treatment are as good as it can get in any government hospital.

On these grounds, Lok Ayukta police requested the court that the Naidu’s plea for bail should be rejected and bail should be granted only for the period during which he needs treatment.
Naidu, his son and Itaska’s MD are facing charges of corruption in the KIADB land allotment scam.

They have been accused of colluding to allot land to the software company, which was reportedly floated by an aide of Naidu.
