The special team headed by additional director general of police (law and order) RK Datta to nab the killers of two abducted BBM students from Hunsur, is now camping in Mumbai. Business rivalry could have led to the ghastly murders, police suspect.

Rivals in business of the father of one of the students  are suspected to have employed supari killers to abduct the boy. Police suspect that the abduction attempt went awry.

The team had conducted extensive investigations in Hunsur and Mysore before leaving for Mumbai. Sons of prominent Hunsur businessmen, Sudheendra and Vignesh, students of Mahajana College, Mysore, had been abducted on June 8 and their  bodies were found on June 12 at Agalagurki in Chikkaballapur district.

The state government set up a special police team to pursue leads, and specially picked officers from the city crime branch are part of the team, which picked up a few persons from Kolkata in connection with the murders. Investigations revealed that four contract killers from Mumbai were involved, and had killed the students after their parents refused to pay a ransom.

Mohan Kumar, father of Sudheendra, runs a business in cement and steel, and his  daily turnover of `25 lakh was said to have caused rivals  envy. Police suspect that Mohan Kumar’s rivals had paid the contract killers. Vignesh was kidnapped as he was with Sudheendra at the time.

Police said the abductors were aided by the students’ friends. On June 8, Sudheendra and Vignesh were about to enter the examination hall when a friend took them to Kalinga Road,  Mysore, where the abductors arrived.
