Karnataka, on Wednesday, urged the Centre to step up coal supply from the public sector companies to its thermal power stations to help it overcome the power crisis faced by the state.
The demand was made by state energy minister Shobha Karandlaje when she met Union power minister Sushil Kumar Shinde in New Delhi.
“The supply of coal, especially from Coal India Limited and Mahanadi Coalfields Limited, needs to be stepped up to overcome power crisis in the state,” she told Shinde.
The Karnataka Power Corporation Limited requires assurance of coal linkage urgently so as to implement projects such as Yermarus Thermal Power Station, Edlapur Thermal Power Station, Bellary Thermal Power Station Unit 3 and Godhna Thermal Power project in Chhattisgarh, Karandlaje said.
These projects were in an advanced stage, added Karandlaje.
