Those dwelling in city’s outskirts now have something to cheer about— as the urban development minister Suresh Kumar has decided to provide adequate water supply for the newly-added areas of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).

The minister called a meeting on Monday with all BBMP corporators from the city’s outskirts to listen to their ward’s water woes and chalk out a solution for the same.

After listening to the corporators, Kumar requested them to provide a list of borewells that are required, along with an estimate of the amount and number of mini water tankers required for each ward. “In the next budget, we will make provisions for more funds for water works,” he said.

When the corporators raised their concerns over the delay in the Cauvery IV Stage II phase project work, Kumar directed the officials to provide a monthly report on work progress and ordered the officials of Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board to set a monthly target and complete work on time. He promised to visit every constituency and inspect the work related to water supply.

Mayor SK Nataraj stated that, in the next budget, more importance will be given to water works. “We have directed all corporators to strictly implement rainwater harvesting in their areas. Each site, which is 40x60 sq ft and more, will have to implement it, and strict action will be taken against owners not abiding by this rule. Drinking water problem is increasing every day, we need to generate water,” he said.
