The high court on Monday posted for final hearing the criminal appeal filed by Shiva Kumar, the cab driver, who was involved in the rape and murder of Pratibha, a BPO employee in 2005.

Kumar had filed the appeal after a city fast track court had sentenced him to life imprisonment. In his appeal, he had contended that there was no evidence against him.

Pratibha, who was working for a call centre in Electronics City, was assaulted and murdered on December 13, 2005 by Kumar, one of the drivers assigned by the company for their staff.

After a five-year-long trial, the 11th fast track court on October 8 last had delivered the sentence for the gruesome murder, an incident that led to revamping of security of women staff in the IT sector across India.
