Sensing a general election to state assembly, the JD(S) on Friday flagged off the Janavahini Yatra of its top leaders, which would cover the entire state. Former prime minister HD Deve Gowda launched the yatra after a puja at Gavigandhareshwara temple.
He advised the party workers not to rest until the BJP government was rooted out and the JD(S) returned to power in the state.
Terming the BJP government in the state as the worst in the last 60 years, Gowda said that it was the duty of the JD(S) leaders to end the agony of the people by ending the alleged misrule of the BJP.
He wanted the JD(S) leaders and the workers to bury their differences and work in unison.
Referring to the porn gate scandal that has drawn international attention, Gowda said that values have taken a beating in politics and such incidents were never even heard of during the rule of JD(S) in the state.
However, it was sandalwood star Pooja Gandhi who stole the show at the launch. The leading lady of Kannada film industry posed as the party symbol of a woman carrying hay stack on her head.
"I will tour the state and try to bring awareness among the people and teach BJP a lesson," Pooja said, recalling the good governance during the days of the JD(S)
She condemned the porn gate scam as the most shameful incident that should make every citizen raise his voice to bring decency and transparency in governance.
While Gowda along with elder son HD Revanna took care of the show at Bangalore, younger son and state JD(S) president HD Kumaraswamy hit the road at Chamarajanagar, which is considered as the jinxed district for politicians.
Kumaraswamy emphasised that he would not care even if his political fortunes were hit by visiting Chamarajnagar. He said that nobody could question his commitment to redress the grievances of the masses in most backward and neglected regions of the state.
