The battle over the mining issue between tourism minister G Janardhana Reddy and former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy continued on Tuesday with Reddy calling the JD(S) leader a liar.

Reacting strongly to Kumaraswamy’s allegation that the Reddys were the owners of Black Gold Mining Company in Bellary, Reddy challenged HDK to prove his charges. “Everyone knows that we own Ananthapuram Mining Company (AMC).

Let Kumaraswamy prove my ownership of Black Gold. The company was started in 1950 and is owned by Amarnath Prasad and Rajashekar. Though its lease expired in 1992, it undertook mining till 2004,” Reddy said.

He added in 2004, Black Gold had taken permission from the high court to sell 3.50 lakh tonnes of mined ore dumps. “We purchased 1.90 lakh tonnes through AMC.

In 2006, Kumaraswamy recommended allotment of mining lease of Black Gold to SK Modi Company, having a mining lease adjacent to our Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC), ignoring 67 other applicants,” Reddy said. “Yes, I am indeed pure gold. Kumaraswamy is pure black gold, 100% black gold in all matters,” he said.

On June 6, 2006, Reddy stated that the JD(S) leader had received Rs150 crore as bribe. “Kumaraswamy then ordered the closure of my company (OMC), but was shocked when officials said we had no mines in Karnataka.

The next day, officials inspected Black Gold and found no irregularities. Kumaraswamy retracted, but has again raked up the issue. But he will not succeed,” Reddy said.

He likes only cash
Releasing bank documents of BSK Trading Inc, a company allegedly owned by Kumaraswamy’s family, Reddy said HDK became chief minister in February 2006, and in March cash deposits in the company started rising.

Rs12.22 crore was deposited in March, and it touched Rs36.17 crore in six months. Strangely, the entire amount was withdrawn in cash.

“Kumaraswamy’s family should engage a good chartered accountant. His foolishness and obstinacy has landed him in trouble. I have documents to prove how the cash was used to buy properties, and how registrations were reverted to sellers the very next day in Mysore, Bangalore and Srirangapatna, after I made the bribery allegations,” Reddy said.

He alleged that the company was projected as engaged in mineral trading but was used as a front to amass corrupt money. “Kumaraswamy only likes cash, not cheques,” Reddy said.
