Why cycling
“I used to cycle to school as a child and today, I ride to work and back,” says Vivek Radhakrishnan, creative director of his company Kynkyny. Radhakrishnan’s reasons for taking to cycling as a hobby or sport reflect his concern for the environment and the results have been inspiring too.
“Cycling doesn’t add to the already thickened pollution layer in the city and is much cheaper than fuel. The excitement, thrill, health benefits and a sense of competition held more weightage for me, and the environmental aspect came along with it.”

Bikers’ club
Having lived in the Netherlands — an out-and-out biker friendly country, Radhakrishnan took some time to fit into the cycling culture of the city after his return. “I met a few bikers at Nandi Hills while training and got pulled into cycling. As a member of the Bangalore Bikers’ Club (BBC), an online forum comprising the A-Z of biking and 1,500 members, I got to organise racing events, chart out routes, invite enthusiastic bikers and much more,” he says. “Cycling is the next best exercise to swimming — it keeps you fit, energetic, helps you focus and gives you the much needed adrenaline rush. Cycling is like yoga for me.”
Radhakrishnan has also formed a team sponsored by his company, called Kynkyny Racing. “We participated in the Bangalore Bicycle Championship (BBCh) and BSA Cyclathon as a team and had the opportunity to ride with some very enterprising bikers on both occasions. Moreover, we will be a part of the International Stage Race, that is to be held in Thailand next year,” says Radhakrishnan.

Spreading the message
Radhakrishnan encourages his employees to cycle to work and supports them in whatever capacity he can. “I saw a passionate biker in Siddaraju, a technician with Kynkyny, while racing to work with my colleagues and asked him to join Kynkyny Racing,” he says. “Moreover, cycling with my team, is a good team-building and motivational exercise. Some fellow employees too have started riding to work now.”
