It is official. The city will have loadshedding for two hours, according to a schedule announced by the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) on Tuesday.
“There will be loadshedding in Bangalore for two hours every day. It will last for four hours in other urban areas and 12 hours in rural areas,” said a senior Bescom official.
According to the notification issued by Bescom, the loadshedding schedule would come into effect from Thursday. “There will be two hours of power cut in areas fed by domestic, commercial and industrial feeders, one hour in the morning and another hour in the afternoon. In rural areas, three phase power supply will be available for six hours and single phase for six hours,” the official explained.
However, Bangaloreans appeared amused by the announcement that the loadshedding would last for two hours. The current
unscheduled power cuts lasted for over four hours every day, they pointed out.
Keshava Murthy, a resident of Hanumanthnagar, said that the existing power outages totalled to over four hours. He wondered what was the new schedule all about.
The situation appeared set to worsen in the newly added areas of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagar Palike (BBMP).
Girish K, a resident of Ramamurthy Nagar, said that there were frequent power cuts in his area totaling to more four hours every day. “I don’t know whether the Bescom will stick to the two-hour load shedding," he said.
The frustration of over erratic power supply spilled over to the streets of Bangalore.
Powerloom weavers of Magadi Road hit the road in protest and thronged the jurisdictional Bescom office to protest against the frequent power cuts.
