Preliminary investigation into the alleged shootout outside the main gate of Indian Space Research Organisation’s (Isro) Bylalu unit on Tuesday has revealed that there was probably no firing from the intruders.

Investigators feel that even if the intruders had indeed fired at the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) guard manning the gate they might have done so using an air pistol that does not leave behind empty cartridges.

The state government has dumped the opposition’s demand for a CID probe into the incident, stating that it was not a terrorist attack.
“We have scanned the entire area for the second day and we could not find any empty bullets. We have so far got only six empty cartridges fired by the CISF guard Jadhav Varun Bhagavan,” an investigating officer said. Jadhav, the officer said, had fired eight rounds from his AK-47 on two intruders who had fired at him with “either a pistol or revolver.” Additional director general of police (law and order) AR Infant said the case had not progressed any further and the police will jointly work with the CISF, which is looking after the security of the ISRO facility, to prepare a report to submit to the state and the Centre.

No CID probe
Chief minister BS Yeddyurappa and home minister VS Acharya have dumped the demand for CID probe into the incident. The CISF and the police are jointly investigating the matter. “We could not find any empty cartridges and neither was there any bullet marks on the compound wall,” said Yeddyurappa.
