A 19-year-old student of the Sri Jayachamarajendra Government Polytechnic at KR Circle allegedly attempted suicide by consuming poison. In a suicide note, the student said that one of his teachers had harassed him.
Police said that Nazir is the son of Ahamed, an autorickshaw driver in Bellary. Nazir is a student of the fifth semester, diploma course in mechanical engineering. On Thursday night, he had locked himself in his hostel room and consumed poison. Other students found something smelling foul, and forcibly opened the door to find Nazir puking in the room. He was rushed to St Martha’s hospital, where he was given first aid and shifted to the Victoria hospital. From there, he was later shifted to a private hospital in Upparpet.
Police said that Nazir had been irregular at college. He was refused permission to sit for the practical examination as he was short of the minimum necessary attendance. This upset him a great deal, and he decided to end his life. His suicide note named a teacher, Eshwarappa, who had warned that his academic performance was not up to the mark, and that he would not tolerate his disobedience.
One of Nazir’s friends said that he had been well-behaved, though he also upset over the last three days. In previous examinations, he had been a good scorer, the friend said, adding that he had no clue why Nazir had been reprimanded.
Doctors said that Nazir is in a critical condition, and under observation.
