A 26-year-old Iranian national studying for MBA in a city-based college was recently arrested by KG Halli police for stealing Rs12.5 lakh in cash from his friend’s house. This was disclosed by the police on Wednesday while announcing the recovery of stolen property by police stations in Bangalore East division.

The accused has been identified as Hamid Taheri Sharkaab. He and his friend Ali Roozer used to meet regularly along with other Irani nationals. During one such meeting Roozer had discussed about a common Irani friend, who was supposed to join a BDS course.

Roozer also mentioned that he had a liquid cash of Rs12.5 lakh in his house and was meant to fund his friend’s college admission.
Hamid hatched an instant plan to rob money. He took leave from the gathering on the pretext of going home early. On the way he purchased an iron rod and went to Roozer house and gained entry by breaking open the door lock. Though a first timer, Hamid had taken precautions such as use of handgloves to avoid fingerprints and had adeptly sneaked into the house without getting noticed by neighbours.

He ransacked the house and got away with the cash kept in the wardrobe. He also took away few foreign brand liquor bottles and expensive perfumes.

Based on a complaint the KG Halli began investigations and found that the money was stolen few hours after Roozer had discussed with his friends.

The police later summoned Roozer’s freinds and conducted a detailed inquiry and zeroed in on Hamid, as he was giving evasive replies. KG Halli Inspector NH Siddappa said that during questioning Hamid gave different versions. Further interrogation led to his confession of crime, he added.
