The city police, on Tuesday, claimed that they had solved thefts committed in 22 temples with the arrest of six alleged inter-state thieves.

Narayanaswamy alias Narayana alias Baddi Narayana alias Balu (33), Manjunatha alias Manja alias Babu (35), Manjunatha alias Yeshwanthpur Manja (21), M Murugesh (29) and K Nagesh (26), all five from Anekal and R Maniyachari alias Mani (42) of Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu, were the arrested persons. Valuables worth Rs5 lakh were recovered from the accused, police said.

Narayana was released from the Salem prison 10 months ago, where he was lodged in connection with more than 40 cases of theft. The thefts at 22 temples were carried out after he was released, police said, adding that the gang used to visit ‘rich’ temples posing as pilgrims.

Attibele circle inspector Yalagaiah and his team nabbed the accused with the help of DySP Shankarappa and superintendent of police (Bangalore rural district) Dr BA Mahesh, police said.
