IISc asst prof commits suicide

A 46-year-old assistant professor at IISc committed suicide in his apartment on Thursday night; his suicide note read he was depressed because of under-achievement.


The deceased, Parag P Sadhale, ended his life by hanging from the ceiling in his apartment in Sanjaynagar. He returned to his house at 10pm from IISc on Thursday. He then sent an email to a colleague and a relative in the city, explaining why he was committing suicide. He also left behind a print of the mail. His colleague happened to check his email only on Friday morning and rushed to Sadhale’s house. There was no response and the colleague informed the police, who broke open the door and found Sadhale’s body hanging.


His death note read that he wanted to achieve many things in life but had failed. He wrote that he had seen many ups and downs in life and was depressed as he could not achieve his goals. He wrote he himself was responsible for his death.


Sadhale was a native of Pune, Maharashtra, where his wife and son live. Police said Sadhale had taken divorce from his wife. They have been informed and postmortem would be conducted once his family reaches Bangalore.


Sadhale had completed his PhD from University of Rochester, USA. He was working with the department of microbiology and cell biology at IISc and was pursuing research. He had even written a couple of books.
