A human rights activist has filed a petition with the police commissioner regarding the case wherein cricketer Anil Kumble has been accused of forgery and has warned that he would approach the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) if his plea is not heeded.
Anil Nayak filed the petition with police commissioner BG Jyothi Prakash Mirji on Sunday. Nayak said it was his third petition in this regard. In the petition, he has lamented that Bharathinagar police did not register a case against Kumble.
“Going by the documents available (through Right to Information Act), it’s a clear case of cognizable offence and the police could have filed an FIR, but their refusal to do so leads us to suspect something fishy,” he said.
After the police did not register an FIR, the complainant, Kumar V Jagirdar, had to approach the high court. Nayak asked in his petition if everyone needs to go to the court to make the police act. The petition reads that the police’s failure in lodging a complaint amounts to the violation of Articles 14 and 21 of the Constitution.
Labelling it as violation of human rights, Nayak said the petition he submitted on Sunday was the third one he has submitted in this regard and if the police commissioner did not respond to it, Nayak would approach the home secretary and the SHRC.
Nayak said he had been following the case right from the beginning and has all the related documents (obtained through RTI). He added that he had nothing to do with either Jagirdar or Kumble but was against the violation of human rights.
Jagirdar, ex-husband of Kumble’s wife, has accused the cricketer of forging his signature on the passport-reissue form of Jagirdar’s minor daughter.
