All is not well on the health front. A visit to the city hospitals reveals a scary situation.
While BBMP officials may quote their figures of dengue, H1N1 and chikungunya in the city, doctors say that with a heavy rush of patients suffering from suspected dengue and H1N1 cases, hospitals are not able to meet their demands.
“After many years, we are facing a situation like this,” said Dr Sudarshan Ballel, medical director, Manipal Hospital.
“With a large number of suspected dengue and H1N1 cases pouring in each day, the hospital is full. We feel bad to say no to patients. But we are helpless. Almost all the beds starting from the general ward to the super deluxe rooms are filled,” he said.
There has been widespread awareness about these diseases among the people and realising its grave consequences, people are keen on getting admitted and treated in hospitals. Unfortunately, the number of hospital beds available in the city is not enough to meet the demand this season.
“My husband has fever for over three days. Blood test has indicated viral infection. We took him to a nearby hospital. But all the beds were full, so the doctor told us to treat him at home,” said Kamini B of Rustam Bagh.
