The high court on Friday issued notices to the ministry of civil aviation, the chairman of the Airport Authority of India and the chief executive officer of Bangalore International Airport LTD (BIAL) in a public interest litigation seeking action against the proposed construction of a star hotel half a kilometre away from the airport.

Advocate GR Mohan, the petitioner, questioned the move to construct the hotel saying it would compromise the safety of the airport.

For instance, he said, anyone could use the hotel premises to target dignitaries who enter or exit the airport.

Constructing a hotel half a kilometer from the air terminal was in violation of the provisions of Section 9-A of the Aircraft Act 1934 read with Rules 82 and 83 of the Aircraft Rules 1937, the petitioner said.
