A 13-year-old girl who suffered grievous burns after she came in contact with a high-tension wire on the terrace of her house near Magadi Road, died on Saturday night.

On Tuesday last, Nandita was drying clothes on the terrace when she came in contact with the live wire that was hanging close to the clothesline, police said.

She was rushed to Victoria Hospital where she succumbed to the burn injuries around 9.45 pm on Saturday.

She was the second child of Devananda, a distributor of chemical products and resident of Manjunatha Nagar in Cholurpalya, and a seventh standard student at St Flower School in the same area.

The police said that around 4.30 pm on Tuesday when Nandita returned from school, her mother asked her to dry the washed clothes on the terrace.

While she was spreading the clothes on the clothesline, one wet cloth accidentally touched the live wire dangling nearby. Nandita was thrown a few yards away and her clothes caught fire. She was rushed to Victoria Hospital with 70% burns.

“We filed a report on Tuesday after the incident. After here death on Saturday, we were given a notice from Victoria Hospital. Later, her father Devananda filed a statement at our station, but he did not file any case against Bescom,” said Nagaraj, inspector at Magadi Road police station.

Many questions were raised regarding the safety measures adopted by Bescom and BBMP officials. This was the second incident in the last two months.

On February 17, 16-year-old Devi was electrocuted after she tried to move a hanging cable near her house that accidentally touched a high tension wire in Nagawara.
