High security in Bangalore for the Independence Day celebration

In wake of the terror attack in Mumbai on July 13, and the security threat to the IT City, the city police have made elaborate security arrangements for the Independence Day celebration at Field Marshal Manekshaw Parade Ground.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, police commissioner BG Jyothi Prakash Mirji said: “People can participate in the 64th Independence Day function without any fear or panic as elaborate security arrangements are in place.”

Mirji said that a massive police bandobast has been arranged. Over 1,500 police personnel will be stationed in and around the ground. There will be 10 deputy commissioners of police (DCP), 20 assistant commissioners (ACP), 40 inspectors, 80 sub-inspectors (SI), and several plainclothesmen for security. Every movement of the public will be videographed and there will be CCTVs installed at various spots.

Independence Day committee president and BBMP commissioner, Siddaiah, said that adequate drinking water and toilets have been arranged for the people as well as participants.

“About 100 beds in 109 hospitals across the city had been reserved and an additional eight-bed mobile hospital will be stationed near the ground along with 12 ambulances and three fire tenders,” he said.

Siddaiah said that VIPs should enter the ground from Gate No. 2 where about 2,000 seats have been reserved for them.
The same number of seats have been reserved for freedom fighters, military personnel and dignitaries upon entry from Gate No. 1.

Government officials and retired military personnel can enter the venue from Gate 3 where 3,000 seats had been reserved for them. For the general public, 300 seats have been reserved who can enter from Gate No. 4, he said.

After the flag hoisting by chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda at 9am, Indian Air Force helicopters will shower flowers petals.
Thereafter, the CM will receive the guard of honour.

Later, 39 contingents, including Home Guards, Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP), National Cadet Corps (NCC) and Seva Dal will participate in the march past.

There will be a cultural programme from over 1,700 children from various schools.
