The Friday evening rain is believed to have destroyed hundreds of SSLC answer-scripts at an evaluation centre in Rajajinagar College of Education in Rajajinagar V Block.

Evaluation work was under way when the skies opened up in the evening. It is said that rainwater gushed into the classrooms on the ground floor where the exercise was on and damaged hundreds of answer-scripts.

However, the authorities maintained a stoic silence on whether answer-scripts had been damaged.

When media personnel visited the school, the classrooms were knee-deep in water. There was no sign of any answer-script being stocked in the room. Officials on the spot said answer-scripts were shifted to a safer place when rainwater entered the classrooms.

Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEEB) director Venkateshaiah denied that any answer-script had been damaged in the rain. He claimed that the answer-scripts had been shifted to the first floor of the Rajajinagar school building.
However, primary and secondary education minister

Vishveshwara Hegde Kageri has asked officials to check whether there had been any damage to the answer-scripts in the school and ordered an investigation into the matter.

Kageri said action would be taken against officials concerned if the answer-scripts had indeed been damaged. He said he would be getting a report in this regard on Saturday.

However, top education officials, including KSEEB director Venkateshaiah, who was away in Mysore, and jurisdictional officer DDPI (North) Chandraiah, had failed to visit the school till late in the night.

It is said that officials are tight-lipped over the entire issue as they wanted to avoid what happened in Shimoga last week when hundreds of answer-scripts were reduced to ashes in a fire.
Parents of students, who gathered at Rajajinagar said 30% of answer-scripts have been destroyed in the downpour before a few hostelers could take them to safety.
