Bangalore: The Karnataka High Court on Thursday ordered Bangalore University to introduce supplementary exams after each semester at its law colleges.

Chief Justice PD Dinakaran and Justice Ananda Byra Reddy heard a writ petition filed by M Hemanand and eight other students of BES College of Law, Jayanagar, and passed this judgment.

The court said that students who fail to clear a paper must be provided with a supplementary exam within 60 days. However, the bar council's regulations on the carry-over will not be disturbed.

The petitioner had contended that law students who fail in a paper are required to wait for 11 months before re-attempting the paper, and requested that students be given more attempts.
