The Karnataka high court on Thursday ordered a notice to Azim Premji, Wipro chairman, in connection with a petition alleging land encroachment in Kempapura tank bed.
Hearing a public interest litigation petition filed by Loksatta party activist Santosh B, a division bench comprising justices V Gopala Gowda and BV Pinto ordered the notice.
The petitioner told the court that a legislature committee headed by AT Ramaswamy had identified that 23 guntas of land had been allegedly encroached by Premji in Kempapura tank bed. He said that despite the committee’s findings, no criminal proceedings had been initiated over the issue.
The petitioner claimed that his repeated reminders to the chief secretary, the principal chief conservator of forests and the BBMP commissioner failed to get the authorities swing into action.
