Banglore: The High Court of Karnataka ordered BBMP commissioner Bharat Lal Meena to explain the factual position on the civic amenity site in Laxman Rao Park, Okalipuram. Meena, who appeared before a division bench of Justice DV Shailendra Kumar and L Narayana Swamy on Tuesday, was asked to appear again on Wednesday with the clarifications sought on the issue.
The court is hearing a public interest litigation filed by Hemaraj and others seeking a directive to prevent the unauthorised occupation of the park.
"We have seen multiple litigation in the matter and no clear picture is emerging. We are still groping in the dark. We want to know what was entrusted to you and the extent of land. You are a civic body and a public authority. You owe an explanation on the factual position," the bench told Meena.
The petitioners have alleged that 33 squatters had encroached the park land in 1969 and the authorities have failed to clear the encroachment. In 1997, the court was moved and it issued an order to clear the unauthorised occupation. But the authorities had failed to implement the order, the court was told.
