With the development of areas including GM Palya, Malleshpalya and Vignana Nagar, the frequency of vehicles on New Thippasandra Main Road has increased considerably, compelling the traffic police to make it a one way. However, parking of vehicles on the road has become a nuisance for motorists, especially drivers of Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) buses.

Traffic police have made a provision to park two- and four-wheelers on the left side of the road. But motorists park vehicles haphazardly, causing traffic jams. Many motorists complain that traffic police do nothing to mitigate the problem. “We expect traffic policemen to visit this road regularly to ensure vehicles are parked on one side and that too at specified places but we have not seen a traffic policemen removing vehicles parked haphazardly,’’ said S Ramesh, a resident of Malleshpalya.

“If this chaos needs to be reduced, vehicles should be allotted definite parking slots. There should not be any parking on the main road,” said Sunil Kamath, a resident of New Thippasandra.

As if this is not enough, hawkers as well as vegetable and flower vendors occupy the footpath, compelling pedestrians to walk on the road. This not only hinders vehicular movement but is risky for pedestrians. “We have removed many hawkers from footpaths, especially near the vegetable market to facilitate smooth vehicular movement. I will depute a traffic policemen soon,’’ said Kavitha, police inspector (traffic), Indiranagar.

The vegetable market also needs the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP)’s immediate attention. The market is too small and cannot accommodate more shops. One can see vegetable vendors occupying the cross road, causing problems for the public. “We want BBMP authorities to evict vegetable vendors the way they evicted them at Malleswaram vegetable market. There is nobody to control drunkards during night.

Police are least bothered about drunkards who create lot of problems for public,’’ said a resident on the condition of anonymity.

Echoing the opinion, Hari Govindan, a resident of New Thippasandra, said: “Often motorists ride their bikes in the opposite direction. This is a one way and we already have to deal with a narrow road. And if motorists ride vehicles from the opposite direction, how much space will be left?”

Meanwhile, Sumithra Vijayakumar, corporator, Thippasandra ward, said efforts are made to keep the road free from hawkers’ menace. “We have taken measures to remove hawkers. I am planning to send a proposal to the BBMP for the development of the vegetable market,’’ she said.

Will motorists get some relief from hawkers and haphazardly parked vehicles? They have to wait and watch.
