Haphazard parking has been choking Richmond Town for long. Vehicles are parked on both sides of the road, thus hindering traffic. Residents of the area want the traffic police to rescue them by regulating parking.

“The traffic police should introduce a model road concept in the area to prevent parking on both sides of the road,’’ said a resident.

Many vehicles are parked on Roselane Road, causing problems for not only residents but for those who visit the area. Residents complain that there have been occasions when autorickshaw drivers quarrel due to the blocking of the road. “The traffic police or BBMP should resolve this,’’ said another resident.

Bus stops are expected to help residents have hassle-free access to Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) buses but residents of Richmond Town—which is divided between Shantalanagar and Shantinagar wards—want the authorities to shift the bus stop near Haj Committee office on Richmond Road to some other place.

“The bus stop, situated at the entrance of Kingston Road, hampers motorists who want to take a left turn from Richmond Road towards Kingston Road,’’ said Shafiq Ahmed, president,  Citizens’ Welfare Association of Richmond and Langford Towns.

Crossing Richmond Road during peak hours is a daunting talk—usually, one has to wait more than half an hour to cross the road.

“If the BBMP constructs a skywalk or foot overbridge on Richmond Road, it will immensely help people,” Ahmed said.

An electric transformer erected by Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) on Laurel Road has added to the chaos—it occupies most of the road and makes it difficult for four-wheelers to move ahead. Footpaths on Alfred Road, mostly covered by construction material, too, require immediate repair.

Meanwhile, P Sowmya, corporator, Shantinagar, has said an assistant executive engineer would be deputed to help clear construction material from the footpath.

“I will ask him to visit the spot on Monday and issue the notices to the people concerned for dumping the construction material on the footpath,” Sowmya said.
