BANGALORE: The Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV), who had earlier protested against the recruitment of non-Kannadigas in Railways, said it did not approve of the violence which the Maharastra Navanirman Sena had unleashed in Mumbai.
"We support the protest by MNS, but their efforts to safeguard the interests of one section of the people should not cause violence to another group," said TA Narayana Gowda, president of the pro- Kannada organisation.
On January 4, 2008, KRV had boycotted the South Western Railways entrance exam for recruitment of D group employees. The protests were staged in Bangalore, Hubli and Mysore.
"We have to implement Dr Sarojini Mahishi committee report which says the lion's share of vacancies should be reserved for local people in the recruitment of D group employees in railways. But the railway ministry has been violating this rule," he said.
"When the entrance test was conducted in Karnataka, the examination notice was not published in any Kannada newspapers. These examination notices published in a few English newspapers hardly helps unemployed Kannadigas. Railways should have advertised about the exam in local newspapers in all districts," Gowda said.
B Sanneerappa, a spokesperson of KRV, said, "MNS is fightingfor justice. The central government always tries woo the majority Hindi-speaking population by all policies. The same thing is happening in recruitment under the Railways too. The whole of Railway department has been hijacked by B... over a decade."
