Steward of the state ship lives in this ward, but that does not save it from the stink. The main road of Sanjaynagar has liberal sprinkle of piled up garbage at any time of the day. Right from Ashwath Nagar to Nagashettyhalli, the whole stretch has one common sight to offer — garbage strewn at street corners adjoining the main Dr Rajgopal Road.

Residents of Ashwath Nagar, Geddalahalli, Sanjayanagar AECS Layout, Nagashettyhalli and Bhoopsandra silently suffer. Although the area has recently seen many commercial developments, maintenance is woefully lacking, they say.

“When it was under BDA, we took it on ourselves to develop roads and manage sewerage of the whole area. In this, we were moderately successful. But now that it is under the municipal corporation, locals have no role to play. The situation is worsening day by day,” says CN Balakrishna, president of AECS Layout Residents’ Welfare Association.

Although sanitation workers visit the main roads every day, garbage is cleaned irregularly. Moreover, complain residents, there is no system of bins.
“Hence, like many other residents, I too dump my kitchen waste at the end of the street which meets the main road,” says Mohammed Ibrahim, a resident of Nagashettyhalli.

“Stray dogs make a mess of the whole place. The corporator is rarely seen. Whatever little is being done on sanitation side is thanks to MLA and minister Katta Subramanaih Naidu,” says he.
Corporator NM Krishnamoorty’s residence is in this area. At one end of Nagashettyhalli Main Road, a dilapidated school building is transformed into a huge garbage dumping pit which when overflows raises a terrible stink.

Dr Rajgopal Road, famously known as Sanjaynagar Main Road, surprisingly does not have a defined footpath or parking area. Hence vehicles are parked on both sides of the road. People walk along the roadside risking their lives.

“There is a hospital on the main road. Close to it, you can find garbage from meat stalls. The place smells awful. What kind of hygiene is this,” asks Sourav Bandopadhyay, a resident of Geddalalhalli.

Local corporator says two trucks have been sanctioned  for collecting garbage from Bhoopsandra and Dollars Colony. About 50 dustbins have been sanctioned for wards 18 and 19. Some of them have been placed at the street ends of Dollars Colony.
