Dejected over the cold shoulder he got from a youth he wanted to befriend, a 21-year-old civil engineer committed suicide by hanging at his paying guest room.
In a suicide note left behind, he hoped he would win the youth’s friendship in the next birth.
The incident happened on Sunday at Munnekolalu in the limits of HAL police station.
The deceased has been identified as P Rajesh, a native of Theerthahalli, Shimoga district.
Police said the incident came to light on Sunday evening when his friends returned to the room. They immediately informed the police who shifted the body to Bowring hospital for a post-mortem.
The police found a suicide note in his room which said he was ending his life to show his interest in a friendship with a youth Abhi, who was also a native of Theerthahalli.
In the note, Rajesh said he was keen to make friends with Abhi. “But he did not care for me. He did not give importance to me and my friendship. So, I want to show him that I am ready to sacrifice my life for him. I am going to prove it today. I am going to die and I will be his friend in my next birth,” he wrote.
Rajesh was a civil engineer with a private firm at Whitefield and was staying with friends.
He took the extreme step on Sunday evening when his roommates went out.
Police have informed his parents about the incident. The body was handed over to his relatives after post-mortem.
Cyclist killed in accident
A 28-year-old bicyclist succumbed to injuries after he was knocked down by a speeding water tanker.
The deceased, identified as Hare Thimma alias Ravi, was a resident of Bilekahalli. Ravi was riding his bicycle when the tanker hit him from behind around 11.45 am on Sunday.
He fell on the road and was run over by the canter's left rear wheel in Kodichikkanahalli near Bommasandra. He sustained injuries on his head and abdomen and died on the spot.
Ravi was an employee with an incense factory; he was returning to the factory when the accident happened.
