Banglore: Shashi Tharoor is not just a minister, he is also one of the most followed Indians on social networking site twitter.com and not even Mallika Sherawat comes remotely close. His popularity is represented in the enthusiasm among Twitter followers, who are now arranging a tweetup (a meet up of Twitter users) with the external affairs minister, today in the city.

Discussions at tweetups are generally informal in nature and topics of discussion range from work to the hottest trends online and offline. "In this case, as Shashi Tharoor is the 'special guest' the whole tweetup will revolve around him," says Tinu Cherian, one of the organisers of the tweetup.

This is not the first time tweetups are being organised with celebrities. A few weeks back Bangalore's Twitter usersinteracted with Guy Kawasaki, a famous internet marketer who was in the city for a Nasscom summit. There was also a small meeting with Lalit Modi, during the Champions League. Tinu says that they were looking ahead to tweetups with celebrities after the one with Guy Kawasaki, and hoping to organise one with Tharoor, when they heard he'll be passing through the city enroute to the TED-x conference in Mysore.

"We contacted him through a close associate and he readily agreed. The tweetup will go on for two hours and we are hoping he'll be there the whole time," Tinu adds.

This will be the first tweetup for Shashi Tharoor, but the question a lot of twitter users will want to ask is about the recent banning of the twitter account of a fake Shashi Tharoor, which some say accounts to restriction of freedom of speech and expression.

The tweetup has limited entry with almost all the slots taken till now. Around 60 people will be attending the event and the invites were passed out through twitvite.com.
