The body of CS Naveen Kumar, 21, was brought to his house at 1am on Tuesday and was buried at 11am.Apart from the grief of his mother Sujata and relatives, there was confusion over the cause of his death.
Later in the day, the 13 students who went trekking with Naveen visited the graveyard. They were crestfallen and soon after the funeral ended, they left.
The students left in a hurry as the college authorities had called them to attend a condolence meeting in the college.
Naveen’s family had a few questions for the trekkers. However, the family spoke to the other friends who had stayed back and vented their ire on them as the trekkers have not yet narrated the sequence of events that led to the tragedy.
“If they have not done anything wrong, why did they run away after the body was buried?” asked Ramakrishan, Sujata’s neighbour.
Later, Sujata’s neighbours spoke to students who had stayed back and expressed disappointment over the trekkers’ insensitivity, for they left without meeting Naveen’s mother.
“We knew they came for funeral, but we did not speak to them until the last rites were completed,” said Ramesh, another neighbour.
However, Sujata intervened and told her relatives that the students should not be blamed.
