The second day of the Mega Science Fair organised jointly by Agastya International Foundation and IBM India, saw participation of over 5,000 students.
Students and teachers alike delighted in the 18-odd experiments displayed at the event. “We identified student leaders from various government schools, and they are helping us organise the crowd, explain the experiments, and basically run the show under our supervision,” said Janani Subramanian, project manager at Agastya.
Even teachers voiced their approval of the two-day event. “The government gives us many facilities but we can’t compete with what the private schools give their students. So, events like this become more important,” said Shanthakarani, a teacher from MLA Government Model School.
While students flocked to all the exhibits, there were quite a few experiments that had the students coming back for more. “I love the human anatomy exhibit. You can pull apart various organs in the human body and I get to explain them,” said Mohammad Rafi from Government High School in PG Halli.
Another bestseller was the ‘occupied space,’ experiment, which had a balloon inside a bottle explaining the properties of air.
“I am coming here for the first time. I have enjoyed learning about all these things. I am definitely opting for the science stream,” said an excited Rebecca, a student leader who can’t stop gushing about the double displacement experiment that shows the nature of various chemicals.
