Expressing serious concern over the spate of murders that have rocked the city in the recent days, KPCC president G Parameshwara on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to chief minister Jagadish Shettar, urging him to take steps to check the increasing crime rate.

“Fifteen murders in 10 days! It is high time the BJP government shows that it can govern or we may have to make our own arrangements to ensure the safety of Bangaloreans,” said Parameshwara, who led a delegation of Congress MLAs from Bangalore.

He attributed the deterioration in law and order to the lack of good leadership in the police department and infighting among senior police officers for plum posts. He said many officers were engaged in legal battles for key posts.

“This squabbles within the department has emboldened anti-social elements to exploit the situation,” Parameshwara stated in the memorandum.

It urged the chief minister to act tough before these anti-social elements destroyed the global image ofBangalore city as a leading investment destination and harmonious city for good living.

Parameshwara has also demanded strict action against senior officers of the home ministry and police departments who have failed in their duty, besides the appointment of efficient and honest officers to key posts. “Goondas and underworld elements should be dealt with severely so as to restore law and order. The government must instil a sense of confidence among the general public,” the Congress delegation demanded.

The KPCC president also stated that the Congress would be forced to take its own measures to protect the people ofBangalore if the state government failed to maintain law and order.
