The Congress and JD(S) members on Thursday took the fight against porn-scam tainted DV Sadananda Gowda government to Raj Bhavan by demanding the dismissal of the BJP government and imposition of President’s Rule in the state.
However, the much talked about opposition unity was missing as the two parties went in separate delegations and submitted memoranda accusing the BJP government of failing in its constitutional duties of upholding the rule of law in the state. They also stated that assembly speaker KG Bopaiah had sided with the ruling BJP and destroyed the sanctity of the legislature by not disqualifying the three former ministers who were watching ‘blue film’ in the assembly. Both the parties demanded that the governor invoke Article 356 of the Constitution and uphold the rule of law in the state as the custodian of Constitution by dismissing the BJP government.
The Congress leaders, led by leader of the opposition Siddaramaiah and KPCC president G Parameshwar, marched to Raj Bhavan from Vidhana Soudha demanding disqualification of porn-tainted former ministers Krishna Palemar, Lakshmana Savadi and CC Patil from the assembly and filing of criminal cases against the trio.
Earlier in the day, Congress legislators staged a protest outside Vidhana Soudha demanding disqualification of the three tainted members from the assembly. Wearing black arm bands, they shouted slogans against the speaker and the BJP government. “The tainted members have been caught red-handed while watching blue film in the assembly, the proof is already there. The trio have even admitted their folly. So there is no need for a separate inquiry into this case. The speaker should disqualify them and file criminal cases,” Siddaramaiah said.
KPCC president G Parameshwar accused speaker Bopaiah of failing to uphold the dignity of the house.
