BJP general-secretary and MP (Bangalore South) Ananth Kumar on Saturday said a delegation of state legislators and MPs would visit New Delhi to demand a circular train project for Bangalore in the upcoming Union railway budget. “It is a long-pending proposal from the state government that we want the railway minister Mamata Banerjee to sanction in the budget. The project needs an allocation of Rs500 crore and will go a long way in de-congesting traffic,” he said.

Kumar, who was speaking at a Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) programme in Nagarabavi on Saturday, said the project, along with the Metro, would build the city’s mass transport network. “The legislators’ delegation would also meet the Union minister of state for railways KH Muniyappa,” he said.

The circular train network will aim to connect the city with surrounding towns like Anekal, Devanahalli, Doddaballapur, Magadi and Ramanagaram. The project proposal is to have 241 km of railway connectivity. Kumar said that both the Namma Metro and the circular train projects would be assisted with a well-connected network of buses. The state is also demanding fund allocation for a 5,000mw power plant to address the power needs of Bangalore, he added.
