A couple from Darjeeling was murdered in the city, police said.
While the man’s body was found near Agara Lake on Jakkasandra-Sarjapur Main Road, his wife was found murdered at their Ambalipura residence in Bellandur.
Police said a passerby, Sridhar, had informed them of a man’s body lying in a pool of blood under a banyan tree near Agara Lake. Police initially treated the victim as an unidentified man, till they found his car parked nearby. He was identified as Amrith, employed with PeerAid, a placement agency in Koramangala.
Investigators had initially expressed doubt that Amrith was killed somewhere else. They felt that his assailants had taken the body to be dumped in the lake, but aborted the bid due to some unknown reason. Police shifted the body to the Victoria Hospital for a post-mortem examination, and sent a constable to Amrith’s house.
However, upon reaching their residence in Ambalipura, the constable found the victim’s wife, Janaki (23), lying dead in a pool of blood.
Both the bodies had similar injuries, police said. Their throats were slit and the bodies bore multiple stab injuries. Police were now suspecting that Amrith was murdered at his house, and the body was taken to the Agara Lake, about 5km away.
Initial investigation raised suspicions that the woman might have been raped before she was murdered. However, only an autopsy can confirm this.
An investigation officer said someone known to the couple might be responsible for the double murder. The motive was not immediately known.
