Kumaraswamy Layout police foiled a dacoity attempt and arrested four persons from Jaraganahalli on Sunday night. During interrogation, one of accused persons confessed to a murder he had committed in Ramanagaram on February 3.

Police said Somashekar alias Soma, 22, of Sarabandepalya murdered his girlfriend Salma, also 22, with his friend’s help. Salma reportedly refused Soma’s demand to terminate her pregnancy.

Salma and Soma were in a relationship for a long time, and after some time, she got pregnant. Though he demanded that Salma go for an abortion, she refused. Soma then hatched a planwith his friend Balraj alias Bala of Avalahalli.

According to their plan, Soma asked Salma to meet him at Sangam Circle in Banashankari, the couple’s favourite spot. When the unsuspecting woman met him and his friend on February 3, they took her to Bala’s house.

At Bala’s house, they threatened Salma and told her to terminate the pregnancy. She, however, was adamant and repeated her threat that she would inform her family as well as the police. This made the men change their tack.

Soma promised Salma that he would marry her after a few days and persuaded her to stay at the house of Balraj’s sister house in Anjanapura on NICE Road.

On way to Anjanapura, they stopped the autorickshaw in which they were travelling and pulled the woman out of the vehicle at an isolated place. According to police, Bala held Salma as Soma slit her throat. The men later crushed her head with a boulder and left the body on the roadside. The body was found the next day.

Police said those arrested with Soma, Jayanth alias Jeevan (23) of JP Nagar, Nanjunda (21) of Sarabandepalya and Raghu (29) of Bhuvaneswarinagar, were not involved in the murder. Bala was absconding.
