A low-intensity bomb blast outside a battery repair shop caused minor injuries to two boys in Dodda Mavalli on Lalbagh Fort Road on Friday. Police said a bundle of firecrackers placed outside the shop triggered the blast.
With memories of the bomb blast outside Delhi high court still fresh, the explosion created panic among residents. Cynergy Enterprises, the shop that repairs cars and deals in UPS batteries, and a two-wheeler were damaged in the blast.
Shobaleshwarappa, inspector, Chickpet police station, said, “We immediately ordered the dog squad and the bomb squad to perform a thorough search. They told us it was a firecracker explosion. The intensity of the blast was high because firecrackers were packed together. The friction between the crackers caused the explosion.”
Police said the blast was a handiwork of mischievous elements. “We have informed people in the area that there is nothing to be worried about,” said Shobaleshwarappa.

Khaleel Pasha, a resident of the locality, claimed that the explosive, covered in a piece of paper, was placed by an unidentified person around 4 pm.
“The blast was ear-splitting and filled the air with smoke.
Suhail, one of the two injured in the explosion, said, “We were working in the shop when the explosion occurred. The other boy and I suffered bruises and cuts. The only thing I could hear was people screaming. The air was filled with smoke and it was hazy for about 10 minutes.”
