The Karnataka high court on Thursday issued notices to the state government while hearing a petition seeking opening of a post office at postal mail motor services office on Millers Road in Vasantnagar.

Satinderpal Chopra, a petitioner, said  the Vasantnagar post office, which had been functioning out of 7th Cross, 11th Main Road, Vasantnagar, remained closed for more than one and a half years, putting residents to hardships. Several representations from the residents to the postmaster general to open a new post office had not been considered.

He further contended that the mail motor services office on Millers Road is spread over an area of 48,000 sq ft and has a built-up area of 4,000 sq ft and was lying vacant for more than 40 years.
The petitioner said he had been constrained to file the petition as the residents’ representations had not been considered by the postmaster general.

The case came up for hearing before a division bench headed by the acting chief justice Vikramajit Sen. The division bench directed the petitioner to make the state government a party to this petition and issued notice to the state government.
