Banglore: Two women were cheated of their jewellery by unidentified miscreants, who had posed as CID personnel, in separate incidents here on Tuesday, police said.
The incidents were reported at the Airport and the neighbouring HSR Layout police stations. However, it was not known whether the same miscreants had conned both the women. Police said that two persons, who introduced themselves as CID officers, met Lalithamma (70) at Rajeshwari Layout around 10.15 am, and warned her against chain-snatchers.
They advised the septuagenarian to keep the ornaments she had been wearing in a packet, and even helped the credulous woman to pack them.
It was only after reaching her residence at Konena Agrahara that the woman realised that she had been cheated. The original, worth Rs50,000 were found missing when she opened the packet at home. Instead of the original ornaments, the packet contained gold-plated jewellery, police said.
Half-an-hour later, another woman, Nagajyothy (50),lost her jewellery to the men. She was returning home from a vegetable stall when two men, posing as CID officers, advised her against displaying gold ornaments in public.
However, when Nagajyothy, a resident of Kaigondanahalli, refused to trust them with her ornaments, a third man intervened and convinced her. He handed over the gold, worth Rs90,000, to the two men and disappeared.

In a similar incident, Jagadishnagar resident Faizal and eight of his friends were visiting Cubbon Park on October 19, when two persons on a motorcycle came along and started questioning them.
The two identified themselves aspolicemen and collected Rs4,400 in cash, besides their cellphones, from the eight. They then asked them to collect their goods at the same spot the next day. Only when the victims reported the matter to the nearest police station did they realise that their tormentors were not real cops.
