Two miscreants posing as goldsmiths duped two women by offering to polish their ornaments, at a house in Kadirenahalli on Thursday.

They decamped with gold jewellery worth more than Rs2 lakh. Kanthamma, 55, in a complaint filed at the Banashankari police station, said that at 10.30am, two men came to her house and told her that they represented a company that manufactures polish for jewellery and as a promotional offer, they would polish her jewellery free of charge. Kanthamma and her sister Lakshmamma, who was in the house at that time, took the bait.

First, Kanthamma gave her silver anklet and the duo polished it. Later, they offered to polish gold chains. Both Kanthamma and Lakshmamma gave their chains, which weighed 64 grams and 70 grams, respectively.

The duo told Kanthamma to bring her pressure cooker and turmeric powder. They pretended as if they were putting the jewellery in the cooker and told the women to heat it and open it after some time. Kanthamma and her sister went to the kitchen to heat the cooker, but when they returned to the hall, the duo had vanished. Kanthamma rushed to the kitchen and opened the cooker, only to find the jewellery missing. She told the police that the duo were about 23-26 years old and were speaking broken Hindi and Kannada.
