Stepping up its campaign against the BJP government in Karnataka, Congress today said it would stage a rally in the city on January 30 demanding resignation of the Yeddyurappa ministry over corruption charges.

Congress workers of nine districts would participate in the rally, which would also be held later in Mysore, Gulbarga and Belgaum revenue sub-divisions, KPCC president G Parameshwara said.

Rallying in support of governor HR Bhardwaj, he rejected BJP allegations that Congress was behind the grant of the sanction for prosecuting Yeddyurappa and asserted "it was given on a complaint by two advocates".

Parameshwara took a dig at BJP leaders for complaining to President Pratibha Patil against the Governor for performing his constitutional duties and alleged the saffron party was politicising the  governor's action.

"If BJP leaders have any ethics they should seek the resignation of chief minister Yeddyurappa on moral grounds", he urged.

Parameshwara alleged finances of the state were in a shambles due to 'mismanagement' by the Yeddyurappa government.

BJP, he alleged, had also failed to keep up most of the promises made in its poll manifesto including continuous supply of three phase power to the rural areas and supply of seeds and fertilisers to farmers at subsidised rates.
