Bangalore: A prominent engineering institute in the city is planning to conduct adventure sports activities for its students during the semester break.
"Many students are interested in adventure sports," L Sudershan Reddy, vice-principal of CMR Institute of Technology, said. "It is the first project of the institute's adventure club, which was inaugurated a few months ago. We will conduct the activities after the exams are over," he said. "The project will give students an opportunity to get used to different climatic conditions."
The activities include high-altitude trekking, cycle safari, snow skiing, wind swifting, white-water rafting, parasailing, paragliding, ballooning, and powered-hang gliding. Each student has to pay Rs100 to register for the events. The students have to take health insurance for participating in the events. To ensure safety, an NCC group will guide the students during the events. A team of doctors will also travel with the students.
"The rates are very nominal," Anshika Raina, a student, said. "When I had gone to Goa for similar activities, agents had charged me around Rs600."
The adventure club is also planning to take up relief work in the flood-hit areas of north Karnataka.
