A two-day national-level seminar on cooperative societies will be held in the city on January 18 and 19 and various issues related to them will be discussed.

Sahakara Bharati national president Satish Marathe told mediapersons here on Friday, that around 5,000 delegates are expected to attend it. He said training sessions, leadership programmes, seminars and symposiums will be held during the two days.

“Specific deliberations will be held on the functioning of cooperative institutions and the efforts to be made to remove hurdles for the growth and development of cooperative societies in the country,’’ he said.

RM Manjunatha Gowda, president, Karnataka State Cooperative Societies Apex Bank Ltd, said it will be for the first time that a national-level seminar on cooperative societies will be held in Bangalore. “More than 35 cooperative societies from Karnataka, which are functioning successfully, are expected to participate in the seminar,’’ Gowda said.

The seminar will be inaugurated by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat. Chief minister Jagadish Shettar, minister for cooperation BJ Puttaswamy will attend the function.
