Banglore: The spotlight is on chief minister BS Yeddyurappa as he faces Bellary's Reddy brothers today in a do-or-die meeting in New Delhi. This is the first time they are meeting since the Reddy brothers revolted against Yeddyurappa's rule.
The one question that is making the rounds is whether this meeting would bring the curtains down on the ongoing crisis in the state or whether it would end in BJP's state unit splitting right through the middle, probably even bringing an end to the 19-month rule of the BJP in the state.
All 117 BJP MLAs are keeping their fingers crossed over today's meeting. The Reddy camp is hopeful that its demand for a change in leadership in Karnataka would be met. If the meeting goes the Reddy brothers' way, it would mean Yeddyurappa making way for a new man, a Reddy camp loyalist. But if the meeting goes Yeddyurappa's way, it is not expected to be a bed of roses for him either.
Sources say Yeddyurappa's continuance as chief minister may force him to sacrifice some of his key loyalists as a compromise formula if the crisis has to end with the Thursday meeting.
This means that even if Yeddyurappa comes out a winner from the meeting, he would be a depleted chief minister, with his wings clipped.
